Our guest tonight is The Right Honourable Lord Eric Pickles best known for his political career in the Conservative party and his role in Holocaust remembrance.

Born in the Yorkshire town of Keighley in 1952, he was born into a Labour supporting family, but after the Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia, he joined the local Keighley Branch of the Young Conservatives in 1968 and hasn’t looked back.

He went on to become Conservative MP for Brent and Ongar from 1992 to 2017, and where he served as Chairman of the Conservative Party, and of course most notably as Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.

He is also proudly the chairman of the Conservative Friends of Israel in the House of Lords, and was appointed the UK Special Envoy for Post-Holocaust issues in 2015.

When he stood down as an MP at the 2017 general election he continued in his role as Special Envoy for Post-Holocaust Issues under Prime Ministers Theresa May and now Boris Johnson, where he has made s tremendous contributions to Holocaust remembrance and now since 2018, alongside his friend Ed Balls, serves as Co-chair of the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation.
