Sir Lloyd Dorfman is a British entrepreneur and Philanthropist best known as the founder of Travelex, the world’s largest retailer of foreign exchange.Born Lloyd Marshall Dorfman, he was bornin 1952 to a Jewish family in London, before attending St. Paul’s School.In 1976, Sir Lloyd started his own currency exchange business from one small shop based, which quickly grew throughout London, and in 1982 he opened up its first international branch in the Netherlands. By 1990, international exchanges were set up in Australia and the USA, and in 2001, Travelex became the world’s largest non-bank foreign exchange business!Beside his business successes, including being a shareholder of The OfficeGroup and Doddle, Lloyd has taken on a range of community positions with major creative and charitable causes.In wider society he is Chairman of the Prince’s Trust and its International arm, a trustee of the Royal Opera House, a major donor for the National Theatre and a board member for BAFTA.Within the Jewish Community, he is also the deputy chairman of the CST and was a trustee of JW3.In recent years, Sir Lloyd has received a range of awards and appointments to celebrate the incredible contributions he has made to the charitable, creative and business worlds. These include being made a CBE in 2008, The Prince of Wales Medal for Arts Philanthropy in 2011, an honorary doctorate by Buckingham University in 2016, and culminating in a knighthood in 2018.You may have seen Sir Lloyd on the news several times during the Covid crisis, as he has been leading the ‘Remember Me’ project, an interfaith memorial to commemorate the victims of Covid-19We are so pleased that such an important, inspirational and no doubt extremely busy person has found the time to join us this evening.Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome tonight’s honoured guest, Sir Lloyd Dorfman CBE!
