Lord Michael Levy is perhaps one of the Jewish communities’ most influential leaders of all time, as he is not just the President of JLGB, but also President of Jewish Care, JFS, Barnet & Southgate Colleges, Sense AND Sense International.

Born in 1944 to Samuel and Annie Levy, Michael grew up in Stoke Newington in North London. Leaving school to become a chartered accountant in 1966, he set up a professional accountancy practice that quickly built up a range of clients in the music and entertainment industry, with clients such as the Foundations – creators of JLGB party Classics “Build Me Up, Buttercup” and “Baby, Now That I Found You”.

With a successful client list, Michael founded Magnet Records in 1973 which became one of the most successful independent labels of its day having launched the careers of both Alvin Stardust and Chris Rhea. He would go on to sell his record label to the Warner Brothers in 1988, so he could put his energy into the fundraising for charities, raising over £60 million for Jewish care alone between 1988 to 1994.

His reputation, brought him in to contact with a young Tony Blair, and they became close friends. Soon after Michael would be become Labour’s Chief Fundraiser, which led to Tony Blair’s monumental 1997 general election victory.

For his contributions to the music, non-profit and political sectors, he was granted a life peerage in September 1997, and become Baron Michael Levy of Mill Hill! He then became Special Envoy to the Middle East for Tony Blair, where Lord Levy was commended by both Israelis and Palestinians for offering constructive suggestions and building lasting relationships in the region.

In 2007, Lord Levy took on the position of President of JLGB, and has been fundamental, and simply phenomenal, in helping JLGB reach its potential to national acclaim, as a leading youth and charity organisation.

Taking his time out of his incredibly hectic schedule, we are so honoured and thrilled that he has been able to join us this evening to tell us more about life, his journey and his vision for the future. Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome tonight’s very special and honoured guest, Lord Michael Levy

For 125 years, young Jewish people have been discovering just how brilliant they can be and how they can make the world a better place through JLGB. Whether you're 8 or 18, whatever you want to be, join in and be your best self with us!
